prism Saturn number 2

The image is a digital rendering of a closer view of Saturn.

Huygens discovered the true shape of the rings of Saturn with one of his own very long telescopes. In Systema Saturnium (published in 1659), he explained the changes in the shape of the rings.

He collaborated on many projects with Giovanni Domenico Cassini, who also added a great deal to our knowledge of Saturn.
